EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from Frank Rushton Elementary School walked two miles to school on Friday to honor Ruby Bridges as they marked the 65th anniversary of her historic integration after Brown vs Board of Education. They learned about her journey, created a video inviting her to visit Kansas, and urged lawmakers to designate an annual day in her honor — even though the proposed bill did not move forward.  KSHB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kansas health officials declared the tuberculosis outbreak over Friday after no new cases were found since April and all patients completed treatment—159 cases were reported and over 650 people were evaluated in Wyandotte and Johnson counties.  KSHB
  • Kansas health officials said on Nov. 14 that one of the largest tuberculosis outbreaks in decades ended in Johnson County—no new active cases have been reported since April and all affected patients were treated successfully. The outbreak was first detected in January 2024 and was managed with help from the CDC, KU Medical Center, and local health departments.  FOX 4 KC
