Students from Frank Rushton Elementary School walked two miles to school on Friday to honor Ruby Bridges as they marked the 65th anniversary of her historic integration after Brown vs Board of Education.

They learned about her journey, created a video inviting her to visit Kansas, and urged lawmakers to designate an annual day in her honor — even though the proposed bill did not move forward.

Kansas health officials declared the tuberculosis outbreak over Friday after no new cases were found since April and all patients completed treatment—159 cases were reported and over 650 people were evaluated in Wyandotte and Johnson counties.
