Kansas City-area residents are planning to rent their homes during next summer's FIFA World Cup to earn extra income and show off their neighborhoods—one homeowner intends to use the profits for home improvements.

The city has set up a short-term rental registration that charges a $50 fee per listing—offering an opportunity that could bring in around $3,500 per home during the event.

Johnson County Park and Recreation has called for 10 artists to apply for the Celebration Flags Project—designs will be used at Theatre in the Park at Shawnee Mission Park and Meadowbrook Park during the 2026 World Cup—applications are due January 11, and each selected artist will receive a $1,500 commission with materials provided.
