  • Ed Maloney, who repairs and rehabs musical instruments through Harmony4Humanity, donated instruments to the KCK Police Athletic League music program—two officers joined his effort to bring music to local youth.  FOX 4 KC
  • Food banks in the area are feeding hungry residents amid uncertainty over federal food program funding after a 41-day shutdown—Harvesters quickly distributed over $500,000 of food and donation barrels collected 100,000 pounds as local donors including students and volunteers stepped up. Local food networks continue monitoring federal moves that could help ease the current challenges.  KSHB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flight delays and cancellations affected Kansas City International Airport on Monday due to the ongoing government shutdown, with 32 delays and 18 cancellations reported at 8 a.m. The FAA ordered a 4% operations cut for 40 major airports and warned that if the shutdown continues, reductions could rise to 10%, leading to further travel disruptions.  FOX 4 KC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Royals introduced Cullen Maxey as their new president of business operations at Kauffman Stadium late Monday morning. He will run the team's operations that are not baseball related—while Brooks Sherman shifts to lead real estate and development efforts to find a new ballpark site.  FOX 4 KC
  • Chiefs coach Andy Reid said all key players — including Josh Simmons, who missed four games for a family matter, and Isiah Pacheco whose status remains uncertain after an MCL sprain — are expected to return as the team prepares to face the Denver Broncos on Sunday in an effort to secure a playoff spot after a loss to the Bills. The update comes after a bye week that allowed the team to refocus for the crucial AFC West matchup.  FOX 4 KC
