BUSINESS NEWS

  • KCI is not on the FAA list for a 10% air traffic cut starting today; however, travelers may face delays and cancellations as 33 other airports reduce flights. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The FAA will reduce air traffic by 10% at 40 high-volume airports starting today—33 of these have flights to or from Kansas City International Airport, though KCI will see no changes. Staffing shortages among air traffic controllers who have been unpaid since Oct. 1 have led to delays nationwide.  KSHB
  • Harvesters, a local nonprofit that provides food to those in need, is facing a growing challenge as the government shutdown has delayed SNAP funding and left over 200,000 people waiting for benefits. The organization needs $2.3 million for next month—while a federal judge ordered SNAP to be funded today, appeals may extend the funding gap.  FOX 4 KC
  • Mother Michelle Phoenix secured housing for herself and her baby through Johnson County’s Foster Youth to Independence program that has offered rental subsidies and case management since March 2024—helping young adults aging out of foster care avoid homelessness. The program currently provides two vouchers and will continue support until recipients turn 25.  KSHB
