COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Glenwood Arts Theatre held a sold-out screening of 'The Elders' on August 16 that raised more than $13,000 for Shaun Brady’s family. Brady, a chef killed last year while he stopped a car theft, was honored with a live performance by Celtic folk-rock band The Elders—funds came from ticket sales, DVD purchases, and donations.  FOX 4 KC
  • Today, law enforcement officers and local supporters are riding 100 miles from Leawood to Topeka to honor fallen officers who died serving our community — the ride remembers heroes like Cody Allen and Brandon Collins while local families and school groups offer support along the route.  KMBC News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new comedy film called Rennie, filmed at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Co-producers Jessica Dressler and Jen Frank Kalenke said it took five years to complete the project—highlighting the creative spirit of the festival.  KMBC News
  • Atlas9—an immersive art experience that creates a living cinematic universe—has now opened for visitors from Overland Park. The venue lets people explore interactive art in a new way.  KCTV 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Roeland Park City Council passed a resolution to increase Spanish voting materials in Johnson County—Mayor Michael Poppa said the move supports voluntary actions to expand language access. Saira Galvan from El Centro said clear ballot information in Spanish could boost voter confidence.  KSHB
  • The City Council voted unanimously to repeal the Border War Truce because previous state law ended after the last Missouri General Assembly—officials said the decision aligned with that change.  KCTV 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • Olathe resident Stan Cummins is a retired Sunderland AFC star who made his home after a 14-season soccer career that took him from England to Kansas City—he remains admired by fans for his skill and his work coaching youth soccer locally.  KSHB
  • Blue Valley West junior Peyton Kubik was named the Hy-Vee and KMBC 9 Athlete of the Week after a strong season start—she tallied six aces, 33 kills, seven blocks, six assists and 25 digs in three matches to help the Jaguars stay unbeaten. KMBC 9 and Hy-Vee praised her leadership as she follows in a family tradition with three sisters who also play volleyball.  KMBC News
