  • KCTV anchor Bill Hurrelbrink reviewed weekend picks for Kansas City, saying that the Chiefs will open their home season and a 913 day celebration will take place while updates include Donny Osmond topping the charts, a Royals win of 4—3, and a family mortgage paid off for a fallen Independence officer. He also reported that Cody Allen was fatally shot after responding to a rural home and Michael Wacha suffered a concussion in an off-field accident—the weather forecast calls for summer heat with a light south breeze and a chance of rain Sunday.  KCTV 5
  • On September 11th, the Overland Park Police and Fire Honor Guard placed flowers along four panels at the 9/11 Memorial—each panel symbolizing one of the four downed planes—to honor 2,996 lives lost in the terrorist attack.  KCTV 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nick Loftin singled to tie the game in the 7th and later scored, leading the Royals to rally for a 4-3 win over the Guardians. Michael Wacha, who was set to start, did not pitch after suffering a concussion from an off-field accident — his absence forced a change in the lineup — and the team adjusted its plans accordingly.  KCTV 5
