Dozens marched in Overland Park on Saturday to protest ICE presence after local restaurant raids sparked a strong community response—participants held signs and honked to support immigrants.

Organizers said they will continue the weekly protest at 80th and Metcalf each Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, the Overland Park Fire Department responded to a home near 124th and Barkley where a deck fire was quickly put out—investigators said hot coals from a charcoal grill likely ignited the wood decking and one person was treated for smoke inhalation with no further injuries reported.

The Doll Cradle, a doll shop that has served Johnson County for 55 years, faces rising costs and building repair issues with a leaking roof and holes in the ceiling while high utility bills add pressure—owner Connie Harrell said the shop will work to preserve its historic charm.

At Kingdom Bar and Grille, family and friends gathered Saturday night to honor late Chiefs fan Ronda Pettus with red and gold decorations — pictures and videos of her life were shown before the preseason game between the Chiefs and Cardinals.

Ronda died weeks before kickoff, and her legacy united attendees as they remembered her love for football.

During Saturday’s preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, the Kansas City Chiefs lost two defensive backs to injury.

Cornerback Jaylen Watson was ruled out in the first half and placed in concussion protocol while safety Deon Bush left the game with an Achilles injury — the team provided no further details on recovery.

On Aug. 9, around 1,000 Chiefs fans gathered at Power and Light amid sweltering heat to watch the team’s first preseason game — their support set an optimistic tone for the upcoming season.
