Local organizations in the Kansas City metro area have stepped up to support the family of Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Deputy Elijah Ming, who was killed in the line of duty less than 24 hours ago + his fellow deputies continue answering calls to honor his service.

Union Station honored fallen deputy Elijah Ming with a lighting tribute Sunday night after he was fatally shot while responding to a call on 30th Street and Shawnee Drive—authorities report that backup arrived, the suspect surrendered, and the KBI is investigating the shooting.

Kansas Task Force 1 returned home from more than two weeks of search and rescue work in Kerr County after assisting local agencies with ground and water rescues during the July 4 floods—team members, who were deployed on July 12, concluded intensive searches and left Texas on Saturday, arriving in Olathe around 1 p.m. Sunday.

Chiefs' Mike Danna said on July 27 that it was time for the team to dig deep and grow as they prepared for the upcoming season — teammates Xavier Worthy and Noah Gray also expressed optimism during the event.
