  • A celebrity hunter known for his TV show was banned for life from hunting in Kansas—he admitted to illegally killing two deer—after his actions were confirmed by officials.  KCTV 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Growing Futures Early Education Center in Overland Park helps local toddlers build school readiness with its Early Head Start Home-Based program using the Parents as Teachers curriculum. The nonprofit supports early learning and connects families living below the poverty line to services—such as therapy, career planning, and child abuse prevention—to guide development.  KSHB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Johnson County is planning a 3000-acre park on the site of the former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant to expand outdoor access and restore nature. The draft master plan, led by Stantec Consulting, will include public input on Aug.2 at Kill Creek Park Beach House and may involve a land exchange to gain more parkland.  KCTV 5

  • Former basketball star Ochai Agbaji — who played at Oak Park and KU — hosted his first hometown kids camp yesterday in Overland Park with NBA player Christian Braun assisting, where 90 kids, including 10 girls, joined shooting drills and a free-throw contest.
