- ➤ Crown Center donated more than $55,000 from selling the Mayor’s Christmas tree ornaments to the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, setting a record donation for the fundraising effort — a milestone for the program. KCTV 5
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police reported that around 1 a.m. Friday a group of possibly teenagers smashed car windows near 124th and Pflumm in Overland Park— officials are reviewing evidence to determine next steps. KCTV 5
- ➤ Hophine Bwosinde (61) of Lenexa pled guilty to one count of aiding and assisting in fraud and false statements and has been sentenced to prison. KCTV 5
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Stand Together, a Kansas nonprofit, is joining a coalition to invest $1 billion over 15 years in AI tools that help frontline workers manage heavy caseloads. NextLadder Ventures — led by Ryan Rippel and partnering with Anthropic — will provide grants and investments to support technology that meets workers' needs. KSHB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Federal funding for public broadcasting was cut by $9 billion after the U.S. House voted to reduce support for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting—Kansas City PBS has shifted to a tighter budget that limits travel and will seek more listener donations. The local station is preparing for changes while assuring viewers that programming will continue as usual. KSHB
- ➤ The Overland Park Police Department welcomed Ty as its new K-9 officer during a swearing-in ceremony on July 18th. He will work with Officer Cody Shipps to protect the community, replacing K-9 Officer Odin who retired earlier this month. FOX 4 KC
