ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Overland Park homeowners returning from out of town saw firefighters from Overland Park, Lenexa and Leawood tackle a house fire early this morning that resulted in a total loss — no injuries were reported and investigators will examine the cause once the blaze is contained.  KCTV 5
  • Severe thunderstorms on July 17th caused flash flooding on Interstate 35 in Johnson County, trapping drivers in their vehicles+ emergency crews are working today to clear the roadway.  KCTV 5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • IRIS microtransit drivers filed a class action lawsuit in federal court on Wednesday against zTrip—accusing the company of misclassifying workers and denying overtime pay. The drivers claim that controlled work hours and mandatory fees have led to lost wages—an issue that has troubled them since October.  KSHB

CRIME NEWS

  • Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice (25) was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation after admitting to charges for a high-speed Dallas crash that injured others, and the NFL is expected to suspend him once his legal case ends.  KMBC News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Kansas City-area parks and trails were flooded by heavy rains that turned trails into streams & parks into ponds, leading Johnson County and Parkville to close several areas while crews assessed damage. Shawnee Mission Park Beach closed Thursday and is scheduled to reopen Friday.  KCTV 5
