- ➤ Overland Park police stopped 61 cars on July 15 after many calls of speeding in the work zone on 69 Highway between 103rd and 179th Streets and gave 71 tickets, with one driver clocked at 96 in a 55 zone—an effort to protect construction workers during the 69 Express widening project set to finish in 2026. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Community Blood Center said that a 25 percent drop in donations over the July 4th holiday left hospitals in Kansas and Missouri with only a one- to two-day supply of critical Type O blood and it urgently needs more O-negative and O-positive donations to reach a safe seven-day reserve—school drives that typically provide 20 percent of donations have dropped during summer break. - ➤ Two Kansas state lawmakers said the Royals might build a new stadium at the old Sprint campus in Overland Park as the property owner must make a $232 million payment by August 9. Lawmakers raised concerns about traffic and parking—while city planners are set to review the plans to ensure the area suits a Regional Activity District scheme—adding local debate to the project.
