BUSINESS NEWS

  • Panasonic opened its 300-acre manufacturing plant in De Soto yesterday — it is the largest electric vehicle battery plant in the United States.  KCTV 5
  • Panasonic opened its $4 billion electric vehicle battery plant in De Soto on Monday with one production line running and 1,100 workers hired so far. Three more production lines will open later this year and four additional lines are set to be operational by 2026—company officials confirmed further expansion plans.  KSHB

CRIME NEWS

  • Hugo Cesar Guzman Jr., 22, pleaded guilty Monday to distributing fentanyl that resulted in Wesley Howard’s death on Feb. 20, 2022—he is scheduled for sentencing Sept. 2 at 10 a.m. in Johnson County District Court.  KMBC News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Casting submissions for Ted Lasso season 4 are growing as filming in the Kansas City-metro area is set to start later this month. A casting agency called Nine9 held a virtual open call that requires a fee for extras, and local talent agent Kathy Hanis warned that you don't pay to play — her comments highlight concerns about fee-based casting in our film community.  FOX 4 KC
