EDUCATION NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Education froze funds for school districts on Wednesday and Shawnee Mission faced a loss of $1 million while Kansas City Public Schools risked nearly $4.9 million in cuts that would affect afterschool programs and teacher training. District leaders said they will search for budget solutions to keep support for vulnerable students and maintain essential services.  KSHB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kansas education officials said that the U.S. Department of Education indefinitely delayed roughly $50 million in funds, leaving key school programs in limbo as federal reviews continue. Education Commissioner Randy Watson warned rural districts to plan ahead—citing delays that affect teacher training and after-school enrichment programs.  KSHB
  • WaterOne crews are repairing a twelve inch water main break that closed 75th Street between Switzer Road and Wedd Street early Wednesday morning in Overland Park—affecting 76 customers in five buildings and with water expected to return around noon.  FOX 4 KC

HEALTH NEWS

  • A measles outbreak has led to Kansas cases rising from 56 to 87 since May while Missouri has reached seven confirmed cases, and health officials advise caution as more patients are treated. The nation has reported 1,288 measles cases so far this year — marking one of the worst years for the disease in decades.  FOX 4 KC
