CRIME NEWS

  • Overland Park Police warn residents in online relationships to avoid sending money or depositing checks for partners they have never met — such requests may signal scams that lead to fraud and financial loss.  KCTV 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Transportation Security Administration dropped its long-standing shoe removal rule at Kansas City International Airport on Tuesday, saying the change will speed up security lines and improve traveler satisfaction. Kansas City passengers welcomed the update and will only need to remove their shoes if the scanners detect an issue — the new policy is now rolling out nationwide this week.  KMBC News
  • Overland Park city council approved on Monday a $22.5 million plan to purchase a large office building near College Boulevard and Lamar Avenue as the new city hall. Facilities engineer Tony Rome said the current city hall at 85th and Santa Fe is outdated and lacks full ADA compliance, and existing tenant leases will delay the full move until 2032—prompting the change.  FOX 4 KC
  • Overland Park approved a tax increment financing district to support Black & Veatch’s $1.12 billion project—designed to revitalize its headquarters campus and surrounding neighborhood with new housing, shops, and a community park. A rezoning hearing will be held in September.  KSHB
  • The Mid-America Regional Council Board of Directors recently adopted an update to Connected KC 2050, a long-range transportation plan that outlines new housing goals, digital connectivity strategies, and revised growth forecasts for the region—public input helped shape the plan to address future transit challenges. The update will guide federal investments and improvements in the Kansas City area's transportation system over the next 25 years.  FOX 4 KC
