Today, Gov. Laura Kelly and military officials at Fort Leavenworth celebrated the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday under the theme “This We’ll Defend” as she presented a proclamation, and the event included public activities such as sports and trivia games.
Officials honored the Army’s long service from the Revolutionary War to the present—urging local citizens to join in the celebration.
Johnson County is educating voters about renewing a 1/4 cent public safety sales tax to support emergency services including EMS, sheriff, and disaster response as call volumes have increased 67% since 2010 — the tax will extend for ten years starting April 1 — and it is expected to raise $54 million annually.
