CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Parade of Hearts announced on Monday it has opened its 2026 Call for Artists, inviting Kansas City natives to submit heart-themed designs for the upcoming parade. Up to 150 entries will be chosen by an independent jury—submissions opened on June 9 and will remain open until Aug. 13, with winners announced in October and public displays planned later in 2026. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A nonprofit in Leawood is hosting a summer camp where 12 visually impaired children learn adaptive technology skills—like cybersecurity and HTML coding—to help them succeed in future tech jobs. Program manager Laurie Due said the camp offers essential tools that improve their ability to overcome daily challenges. KSHB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Low-income Missouri and Kansas parents whose children receive SNAP benefits or free/reduced-price meals may be eligible for SUN Bucks this summer — a federal program that gives $120 per child to help pay for groceries. The funds will be added to SNAP cards or sent directly to eligible families and must be spent by the end of September to avoid losing them. FOX 4 KC
