CRIME NEWS

  • Overland Park police arrested seven people during a 'Stop the Lift' operation from May 30-31 that increased uniformed and undercover presence—aiming to reduce shoplifting and gather intelligence on crime networks.  KCTV 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Shawnee Mission School District will serve free meals to children ages 1-18—even to those not enrolled in the district—through its Summer Lunch Bunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at select schools from June 2 to July 25, with adults able to buy a $5 meal and no carry-out available.  KCTV 5
  • The Shawnee Mission School District warned that a federal budget proposal to cut billions from the meal program may reduce free meal benefits for one in five students—risking higher unpaid meal balances and lower state funding. Officials said the changes will complicate paperwork for families—while they wait for lawmakers to act.  KSHB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Big Slick raised over $4.5 million for Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City over the weekend at a benefit show at T-Mobile Center (beating last year's $3.9 million total) as part of a 16-year series (that has raised $25 million) for pediatric cancer research.  FOX 4 KC
