  • After water swamped the intersection at 23rd Street and Television Place overnight, Blue Summit businesses are urging city officials—who have not yet outlined a plan—to fix the recurring flooding issue.  KCTV 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Overnight storms caused tree damage and left debris across the metro (one apartment complex had a tree fall into its building) but no major structural harm occurred. Today, residents can expect typical warm June heat with highs around 86, though occasional clouds may signal rising rain chances Friday.  KMBC News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bus fares will resume Monday with a single ride costing $2 and a day pass costing $4 while weekly and monthly options are also available. KCATA and United Way will distribute 20,000 free single-day passes to over 100 nonprofits to help local riders.  KCTV 5

HEALTH NEWS

  • As Kansas City prepares to welcome thousands of World Cup visitors, local health experts say everyday illnesses like colds, coughs and gastrointestinal issues are more likely health threats than rare diseases (such as Ebola). They advise staying hydrated and washing hands frequently to reduce the risk of infection.  KMBC News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Defending World Cup champions are in the Kansas City area today and local fans are eagerly lining up to catch a glimpse of the team.  KCTV 5
  • Overland Park’s Johnson County Community College won the NJCAA Division I Junior College World Series on Friday night when it beat Blinn College 8-5 in Colorado. The team ended a record-breaking season with a 67-3 record and 219 home runs, marking its first junior college national championship since 1999.  KCTV 5
