  • The Just Between Friends consignment event at the Overland Park Convention Center offers children’s clothing, toys and furniture at 50 to 90 percent off retail through Sunday.   • A Chick-fil-A in Overland Park hosted a fundraiser on Thursday night that raised about $7,000 toward a $20,000 goal to cover a service dog's cost for nine-year-old Lincoln Pearson, who suffers from severe epilepsy. His family still needs more support—doctors say the dog will help by alerting them if he has a seizure.  KMBC News

  • Hundreds of business hopefuls gathered Thursday in Overland Park to pitch innovative ideas at an open casting call for ABC's reality show Shark Tank.   • Blue Valley, Shawnee Mission and Olathe school districts released a letter opposing the Educational Choice for Children Act that is under review by the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee. The letter says the bill would divert public school funds and cut support for special education, staffing — and technology.  KCTV 5

  • Representative Sharice Davids announced a new FAA grant of $1.8 million to improve air safety at New Century AirCenter in Gardner by funding the reconstruction of 7,330 feet of runway and replacing 16 signage points—efforts that support local logistics and economic growth.  FOX 4 KC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Overland Park is hosting a five-day national pickleball tournament that started this week at SERV near 91st and Metcalf—250 players from 23 states and two countries will compete in 220 matches to win a spot in the San Diego finals in November.
