  • Nine new stores have opened at Oak Park Mall as businesses boost their presence for the World Cup — including Midwest Dirty Soda and Broadway by WyCo. Starting next month, a shuttle service will take fans directly to matches and fan fest events.  KCTV 5

  • UMKC economist Dr. Sirisha Naidu warns gas prices in Kansas City could hit $5 a gallon while the Strait of Hormuz stays blocked, causing a rise in everyday costs like groceries and travel expenses. Local businesses may also see fewer visitors as uncertainty grows ahead of the 2026 World Cup.  KMBC News

HEALTH NEWS

  • KU Health System will end its pediatric intensive care unit services by the end of June+ shifting beds to its neonatal unit as parent concerns rise over limited options until Children’s Mercy opens its new tower. No layoffs are planned with the closure.  KSHB

  • Lenexa-based Henderson Engineers helped upgrade World Cup 2026 stadiums and the Sporting KC facility, which will host Argentina’s base camp including amenities (hyperbaric chambers, a sauna, and a pool) to keep fans comfortable during matches.  KSHB
