CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Johnson County judge granted former employee Christopher Wehunt permission to use the internet with monitoring software as he awaits trial for three counts of sexually exploiting a child—charges that allege he enticed minors, possessed abusive images, and contacted at least 10 children between Aug. 1 and Oct. 11 last year. - ➤ Fernando Gonzalez-Prado was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison at Johnson County District Court for second-degree intentional murder and aggravated battery in the 2022 death of Jarod Rogers in Shawnee — he pleaded guilty as one of five charged. FOX 4 KC

- ➤ At Mill Creek Elementary, librarian Melissa Amos-Eyberg teaches digital citizenship and safe online habits as part of the new Shawnee Mission phone policy—phones are kept out of sight during classes. Today, the school will hold a Screen Sanity Parent Night so families can learn to manage technology wisely. KSHB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting today, TSA requires Real ID—marked by a star on a driver's license—for air travel at airport checkpoints including Kansas City International Airport. Travelers without Real ID or another approved document must allow 30 to 60 extra minutes for additional security screening. KSHB
- ➤ Today, the Kansas Department of Transportation begins long-term ramp closures at the I-435 and US 69 interchange in Overland Park as part of the 69Express project — three ramps will close for about six months and one for about two months starting at 7 p.m. — and detours plus a new northbound ramp at College Boulevard will keep access to US 69; traffic on northbound US 69 between College Boulevard and 103rd Street will shift into a head-to-head configuration divided by a barrier.
