COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Geeks for Kids Charity Auction is online until May 3 — it raises funds to build custom electric cars and devices for children with movement limitations. Since 2019, the program has provided nearly 300 custom vehicles and will deliver 80 more on June 1.  KCTV 5

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Overland Park Police said a 93-year-old woman died on April 16 from injuries sustained in a crash on April 4 near the intersection of W. 143rd Street and Metcalf Avenue when she failed to yield at a flashing yellow light—investigation of the crash continues.  KCTV 5
  • SMSD high school sweethearts Itzel Guerra and Jose Maria Placensia Castañeda — eight minutes from home after prom — died in a wrong-way collision, and families recall their promising futures and close bond.  KSHB

CRIME NEWS

  • Joseph Andrew Wacaster pleaded guilty on April 21 to premeditated first-degree murder in the killing of his boyfriend, 27-year-old Cade H. Blackburn — whose body was discovered at an Edgerton home on March 30, 2024 — and he is scheduled to be sentenced on June 3, facing the possibility of life without parole.  KCTV 5
  • Joseph Andrew Wacaster pleaded guilty to premeditated first-degree murder for the killing of 27-year-old Cade Blackburn in Edgerton on March 30, and he was arrested later that day in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.  KMBC News
  • Joseph Andrew Wacaster pleaded guilty to a premeditated first-degree murder charge in southern Johnson County after killing his boyfriend Cade Blackburn in late March 2024 near 5th and Edgewood Drive in Edgerton — he is scheduled for sentencing on June 3.  FOX 4
