  • A local resident said power outages have increased because overgrown trees block high-power lines — Evergy has not trimmed them, which raises a safety hazard in the neighborhood.  KCTV 5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Overland Park’s downtown farmers’ market is under construction as it prepares to expand into Clock Tower Landing with indoor spaces for concerts, watch parties, and events starting in 2026—helping local vendors increase their profits. The season opens Saturday at the Matt Ross Community Center with more than 85 vendors, including a donut shop and a French market—boosting their business amid economic challenges.  KSHB
  • An unknown company is studying a new headquarters in Overland Park that could create 2,000 jobs with an average yearly pay of $125,000 (if it moves forward). The proposal is under review and will deliver local business growth if approved.  KCTV 5

CRIME NEWS

  • Overland Park police responded just before 9 a.m. on Thursday to reports of a suspicious man in his late 20s near a wooded area at Shawnee Mission South High School—searching with patrol officers, police K9s and drone operators yielded no evidence—and school officials ended an hour-long lockdown while increasing security until dismissal.  KMBC News

  • Two new Kiddie Academy daycares broke ground on April 3 in Liberty and Overland Park—each designed with 14 classrooms and a modern playground to serve 206 children and create 70 local jobs.  KCTV 5

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Kory Kirkegaard of Overland Park is challenging the Dental Board's ban on his certified therapy dog Ivy from the office during patient hours after a meeting on April 11—he has retained an attorney and seeks to reinstate Ivy while noting that many dental offices allow therapy dogs. The board voted unanimously to uphold the ban despite his evidence and patient support.  KMBC News
