- ➤ Lenexa police said thieves stole mail from USPS mailboxes and washed checks—changing payees and amounts—to commit about $500K in fraud while Overland Park police and the Postal Inspection Service continued investigating a report from downtown. KSHB
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Blue Valley School Board approved a new sex offender policy Monday night after parents discovered a registered offender attended Blue River Elementary School’s dance in February taking pictures of students—banning any person on the Offender Registry from school events unless they are current students. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon last week asking for the $22.6 million pandemic relief funds that help improve student achievement and prepare educators—funds that the state relies on as the secretary reviews its request. The review comes amid federal plans to recoup part of the relief funds from states. KSHB
- ➤ The Overland Park Police Department has introduced a new real-time tool that lets community members offer feedback on interactions with officers and dispatchers immediately after service calls — negative comments go directly to a supervisor while formal complaints follow the established process. State officials say the system supports officer accountability and procedural justice to maintain community trust. KSHB
- ➤ Governor Laura Kelly sent a letter to FEMA asking for a major presidential disaster declaration after severe storms, fires, and floods caused damage to roads, bridges, and utility infrastructure in several counties during the week of March 14-19—she asked for federal help through the Public Assistance Program to repair the damage.
