- ➤ Betty Rae’s Ice Cream will open its sixth Overland Park location on Wednesday with three days of grand opening deals including free ice cream for the first 50 customers, free toppings, and giveaways. The shop, located (6936 West 135th Street, Shoppes at Deer Creek Woods), will offer free handmade waffle cones on Thursday and discounted pints on Friday. FOX 4 KC
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Former Johnson County employee Christopher Wehunt appeared in court on April 14 and was charged with three counts of child sex crimes—he allegedly enticed a minor into sexually explicit conduct and possessed images of child sexual abuse; he remains on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court on April 23. - ➤ Local country music fans will enjoy the Hot Country Nights summer concert series at KC Live with shows scheduled from May 29 through August 21 featuring acts such as Wyatt Flores and Lee Brice—tickets will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. and general admission will be free for guests 21 and older at selected concerts. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Overland Park officials and the Kansas Department of Commerce are set to review a $125 million project that would let a new tenant lease 420,000 square feet at the Aspiria campus and create up to 2,000 full-time jobs with an average annual salary of $125,000 by March 2030. Mayor Curt Skoog will present the plan at Wednesday’s Finance, Administration and Economic Development Committee meeting — the project also includes a 10-year property tax rebate subject to meeting all conditions.
