EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mitzvah Garden KC & Blue Valley Schools partnered to reopen an abandoned greenhouse on the Blue Valley campus Monday morning after a decade of vacancy. The space now lets students from the 18-21 Services Program practice gardening and job skills while growing produce for local families.  KSHB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Overland Park will start a pilot project later this month by installing street cushions in four areas to slow drivers and improve safety.  KCTV 5

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA granted accelerated approval for a new drug to treat Hunter syndrome, a rare condition affecting fewer than 500 people, after Overland Park parents lobbied for change; their four-year-old son Atlas is receiving enzyme therapy in North Carolina.  KSHB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mill Valley’s Beau Peterson is ranked as the 41st-best baseball prospect for this MLB draft, according to MLB.com. He has committed to the Texas Longhorns and impressed scouts during a recent hit-around with a strong bat and a 94-mph fastball.  KCTV 5
  • Jerry Quickel, an Olathe resident, has built a display with over 652 college football helmets in his basement that draws sports fans. His collection continues to grow, offering a unique look at local college football heritage.  KCTV 5
