- ➤ ABC’s Shark Tank will hold an open casting call on May 15 at Mazuma Credit Union, 7260 West 135th St. in Overland Park for entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas+wristbands will be handed out from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.+Interviews begin at 10 a.m. and pitches must last one minute for participants 18 or older or with a legal guardian. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 25-year-old Olathe man was charged with voluntary manslaughter after fatally shooting 21-year-old Landen Roggenkamp on Saturday night — he remains in custody on a $1M bond and will appear before a judge today. KSHB
- ➤ Joseph Harold Lapsley Jr.—a Grandview resident—was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action for the killing of 48 year old Samuel Aro, who was shot at his business on North Oak Trafficway on March 23; his hearing is set for April 29 in Clay County. KMBC News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, more than 3,000 local students skipped their classroom lessons to hear Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes read his family's favorite book at the T-Mobile Center — part of the Read For 15 campaign run by the 15 and Mahomies Foundation and Lead to Read KC, which over five years has involved more than 20,000 students. - ➤ Gardner Edgerton taxpayers will vote on a $100M bond today to ease overcrowding, improve special education, add a new elementary school, and convert Sunflower Elementary into an early childhood center—some families worry about losing a neighborhood school. If the bond does not pass, the district will review its plans and may adjust school boundaries or propose a new bond later. KSHB
- ➤ Today, Johnson County residents must have three separate mail-in ballots in a county drop-box by noon to vote on a school bond, an existing sales tax, and whether a park stays or goes. KCTV 5
