- ➤ Federal officials charged Nebraska contractor Bobby Bates Sr. with fraud for tricking customers out of about $700,000 in states like Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma when he took deposits for projects that were never finished between February and October 2023—federal agents are still investigating the case. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Nelson-Atkins Museum revealed six finalist designs for its expansion and transformation and will show the designs in a free exhibit from March 15 through June 1 while asking the public for online feedback. The finalists come from teams based in Tokyo, Genoa, New York (twice), Chicago and Los Angeles and were chosen from 182 entries across 30 countries. KSHB

- ➤ Local Head Start leaders warn a government shutdown looming Friday may cut funding for the program that 85 percent of children depend on for early education, mental health support, and screenings. They fear that a $25,000 employee buyout from HHS could disrupt services at centers like Exploring Minds Academy, leaving many vulnerable families without affordable childcare (with most families living at or near the poverty line).
