  • A Johnson County man filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Jan. 26 after Epic Holiday LLC’s Jingle KC festival faced $1 million to $10 million in liabilities. Court records show the business suffered severe losses from poor attendance, rising costs, and unpaid wages as it wound down operations.  KMBC News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Legendary singer Paul Simon will perform at Kansas City's Starlight Theatre on June 16 as part of his A Quiet Celebration Tour, which features a 33-minute opening plus a set of greatest hits after an intermission. Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m.  KMBC News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The House Education Committee advanced a Kansas bill on Feb. 2 that would require written parental consent for school mental health services. Lawmakers raised concerns over potential fines and clarity in the bill before it goes to a full House debate.  KCTV 5
  • Nearly 150 juniors from St. Thomas Aquinas High School toured the American Jazz Museum and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum on Tuesday, learning about the Jazz Age and local history during Black History Month lessons. Teacher Chris Durkin said the trip connected classroom learning to the community’s cultural legacy.  KSHB

  • The Kansas Department of Transportation announced that the long-awaited 69Express lanes will open Saturday, Feb. 21 (tolling begins at 8 a.m.) as U.S. 69 is expanded from four to six lanes between 103rd Street and 151st Street in Overland Park.  KMBC News
